An astonishing 80% of blindness in Kenya need never have happened. What is needed is quality eye care which is accessible to everyone.
Last Year Ksh600,0000 was raised for Kwale District Eye Centre to enable them to continue to provide this.
Sponsors and teams include Heineken, Safaricom, DT Dobie, Civicon, Satao Camp, Base Titanium, Oserian, Swahili Beach and South Coast Backpackers. Hotels and local companies gave prizes for the raffle or auction and a percentage of the drinks was donated to the charity.
Diani Rules celebrates more than 20 years of fun and support to charity. Come and join us next year on 1st June at Forty Thieves. email@example.com to find out more
For twenty years this fun charity sports event on Diani Beach raises money to battle blindness. The sports involve football with a rugby ball, volley ball, Frisbee, target and many others.
There is always immense support from local hotels, national companies and businesses and people come from as far away as UK to join in.
Here we see two teams battling it out in the waves
Because of twenty years of fundraising, thousands of poor Kenyan people and their families have literally been given the Gift of Sight.
The commonest cause of blindness in Kenya- cataract- can be surgically removed so the patient can see again!
Can you imagine how that must feel?
Mwanasiti and Alice pictured here after their surgery perhaps give us some idea
Diani Rules would like to thank all those who made this possible.
The Diani Rules title is taken literally, as the rules of the games are made up, in Diani, by the judges where it is held.
Basically 16 teams of eight (at least 3 of whom MUST be girls) compete in team sports such as beach volleyball, tug of war, rugby, Frisbee etc.
The games are changed so that everyone is brought up or down to one level e.g. football is played with a rugby ball on the beach.
Teams representing companies from both Kenya and abroad, from different business backgrounds, come to take part, help with the organization or simply to watch and be part of the fun.
Many other organizations, individuals, businessmen and hotels come together to give prizes for the teams and grand raffle.
How you can help
Sponsor a team – each team advertises their sponsor throughout the weekend by wearing brightly colored tee-shirts with their logo clearly displayed. Either bring along your own team to compete or we can provide – Ksh60,000/- (US$ 565)
Provide sponsorship for the musical entertainment or food and drinks
Provide a team prize – everyone leaves Diani Rules with a prize.
Provide a raffle prize – The draw for this takes place at the highlight and conclusion of the event with all participants and spectators present
